Data blog: What's the least Charlton and Millwall must do to reach the play-offs?

Perhaps it's a bit too early to be talking about how Charlton and Millwall could *scrape* into the play-offs when, clearly, the sides are pitching for the automatic places.

But for the doubters and cynics, here are some interesting stats...

Teams hoping to secure a playoff place in this season's Championship are unlikely to need to win half of their league games this season.

Since the start of the Premier League era, no team finishing in sixth in the league - the last playoff spot - has won more than 48 percent of their games.

Back in the 95/96 season, the team in sixth place won just 37 percent of their games.

On average, teams finishing in sixth place in the Championship win just 43 percent of all of their league games over the course of the season.
