Gruesome discoveries from London's past are revealed tonight in a BBC 2 documentary on the construction of Crossrail.

The third and final episode of The Fifteen Billion Pound Railway, follows the making of Canary Wharf's Crossrail station, which is so big it had to be built across the dock and underwater.

The cathedral-sized station was put together like a huge jigsaw, with a roof that was so complicated it came with more than 2,500 pieces.

The first two episodes looked at the problems creating a tunnel in the underbelly of Tottenham Court Road station and the how it was to rebuild a Victorian tunnel under the Royal Docks in London's East End.

The Fifteen Billion Pound Railway: Platforms and Plague Pits will air on BBC 2 tonight at 9pm.
