Newham street sees second "vicious attack" on pensioner

A 71-year-old man was punched and kicked in the face in an unprovoked assault in Newham.

The incident in Grangewood Street, E6, on Friday, comes just five weeks after a 75-year-old woman was punched off her mobility scooter in a similar attack.

The latest incident took place at 8.40am and police are appealing for information from those in the area.

Detective Sergeant Dean Musgrove from Newham CID said: "This was a vicious random unprovoked attack on an elderly gentleman causing significant injuries.

"There were several people present during the morning school run and we would like these people to come forward with any information they may have."

The suspect is described as a black man in his mid twenties, 5ft 10ins tall, of medium build with a black beard and dreadlocks. He was wearing a grey fleece and carrying a draw string plastic bag.

The victim was treated in hospital for severe bruising and lacerations before being discharged.

- Following the first incident on May 16, a 37-year-old man was arrested. He has been bailed to return to a north London police station in early July.
