Two of the biggest organisations in south-east London have linked up with the University of Greenwich becoming Charlton Athletic's shirt sponsor for the next two years.

The deal is part of a tie-up which will also see the university make use of the club's training ground following a multi-million pound redevelopment.

Charlton's chief commercial officer Ben Kensell said: "This partnership is for the long term and delivers tangible benefits for both parties. The university are proud neighbours of ours and one of the largest employers in the area, so what better institution is there to partner with?"

Vice-Chancellor of the University of Greenwich, Professor David Maguire, said: "It makes real sense for us to combine our resources and visions together to do something special for our local community.

"Working with Charlton allows us to make progress in all of our key areas such as original research, working with the local communities doing enterprise with businesses and other institutions and, of course, our educational work."

The training ground redevelopment is part of a campaign for Charlton to achieve category one status as an academy.

The club's fans will see the new kit for next season in the coming days.
