Part of Canary Wharf was closed by police on Thursday morning due to a security alert.

The Met Police said there was a suspect package reported in Churchill Place. Staff at Barclays and the surrounding buildings were told not to leave their offices.

They were also told to stay away from windows facing the scene.

It was also being reported on Twitter many people are being kept in the malls as police carry out their investigation above ground.

Pictures also appeared of a 'bomb disposal robot' arriving at the scene.

Reuters reported a controlled explosion was carried out just before 10.30am.
