WHAT'S ON

"Let the bodies hit the floor, let the bodies hit the floor" screams out in welcome to Rites of War - an aerial dance performance that tells two war time stories - one from Afghanistan and another from World War One.

This fusion of Lindsey Butcher's (Gravity & Levity) expressive aerial dance vocabulary and Darshan Singh Bhuller's choreography creates a very powerful production - especially when you are aware the Afghanistan stories are based on real life tales from BBC Afghanistan correspondent David Loyn.

I was gripped to the storyline throughout, which is presented on and against a six metre high custom built installation.

The storylines beautifully entwine together in this dramatic tale which manages to get across the intensity, fear and sorrow felt through war.

Rites of War is now on UK tour after its premiere at Stratford Circus on May 1.
