A fire at a motorcycle repair shop has led to the closure of Blackwall Tunnel approach in both directions.

The incident took place on Thursday morning at 6am in Blackwall Lane in Greenwich and saw 35 firefighters and six fire engines at the scene.

The A102 was shut from the Sun In The Sands Roundabout.

London Fire Brigade said they fear there could be explosions as a result of the fire and set up a 200 metre hazard zone around the site.

Those living near the scene are being advised to keep their windows closed.

Station Manager Tim Frost said: "The whole of the repair workshop is alight. We believe that there are a number of gas cylinders inside the premises. Fire crews will be working to cool the down the cylinders, as some of them can explode when exposed to heat.

"I'd advise people to avoid the Blackwall Tunnel and surrounding roads as there is heavy traffic congestion."
