John Biggs: Lutfur Rahman is failing on the basics
COMMENTBy John Biggs
This is a vital year for Tower Hamlets. Many of us think the current mayor is letting our community down. We could do so much better. The mayor of Tower Hamlets controls a £1billion annual budget but he's failing on the basics. Rubbish goes uncollected and crime has risen in our borough, despite decreasing in Newham and Hackney.
He's wasted golden opportunities like the Olympics. We were right at the centre of it, yet Tower Hamlets didn't get anything - no Olympic events, no lasting jobs and no homes.
As a candidate who is strong, honest and fair I know what is needed and can be trusted to get it done.
With over 25 years' experience of public service, I helped bring the Olympics to east London, worked on housing and job creation projects and have successfully brought transport improvements to the East End.
I'll use this experience to serve all the people of Tower Hamlets, acting fairly, valuing our diverse community as a strength.
This means working in partnership to improve the success rate of people seeking employment or setting up their own businesses, cracking down on crime and antisocial behaviour, tackling the housing crisis and prioritising school places, so parents won't have to travel across the borough to take their child to school.
Tower Hamlets needs the strong leadership I can provide that puts fairness and opportunity first and takes the East End forward.
