Police closed Blackheath to traffic on Sunday afternoon after an accident left a cyclist hospitalised.

The female, believed to be aged around 55, was in collision with a bus. Her injuries are not understood to be life threatening.

The incident took place on the A2 at Shooters Hill at around 2.10pm.

Police then stopped all traffic going through Blackheath, causing gridlock around Greenwich until after 5pm.

A Met Police spokesman said: "We were called to a collision between a double decker London bus and a cyclist.

"Thankfully her injuries are not life threatening. The bus stopped at the scene and no arrests have been made. Enquiries continue."

A spokeswoman for London Ambulance Service said an ambulance and a single responder in a car arrived at the scene.

She added: "Staff treated one patient, a woman believed to be in her 50s, for a back injury. She was taken to King's College Hospital."
