An east London woman has appeared in court charged with the attempted murder of her mother.

Kuntal Patel, who works at Barclays Bank in Canary Wharf, was arrested on Sunday under anti-terror laws by police looking for toxic chemicals.

She appeared at Westminster Magistrates Court on Thursday.

The 36-year-old is accused of the plot to kill her mother, Meena Patel, 54, who is a magistrate.

The daughter, who was refused bail and will next appear at the Old Bailey on February 21, lives with her mother and sister in Stratford.

Mother Meena works at Thames Magistrates Court.
