A rapist has been sentenced to five years in prison after an attack on a woman in her own home.

Ricardo Ramsay, 25, of Bowerman Avenue in New Cross, was found guilty at Woolwich Crown Court over an incident which took place in February 2012.

Ramsay was among a group of men who were drinking with the 22-year-old female victim and her friend in a bar the London Bridge area.

Afterwards they all went back to the victim's flat in Bermondsey. She went to bed while the rest of the group continued to socialise.

During the night she was raped by Ramsay who also stole belongings from her flat.

She called police the following day who used CCTV of the bar to identify Ramsay. He was arrested a month later and charged with rape last October.

In June this year he stood trial at Woolwich Crown Court but the jury failed to reach a decision.

He was retried in November and found guilty by a jury on November 18. Ramsay was sentenced on Monday.

He will be on the sex offenders register for life.
