Teens who went into a bank with a gun were arrested after failing in their attempt to make a speedy getaway using a DLR train.

Police were called after the armed duo were seen going into a bank at Lewisham High Street on Wednesday afternoon.

Officers tracked them to a Docklands Light Railway train at Lewisham station where they were arrested. An imitation firearm was discovered nearby.

A spokeswoman for the Met Polcie said: "Police were called to Lewisham High Street at approximately 15:45 hours following a report that two men had entered a bank and that a firearm had been seen.

"There was an immediate response from local officers and officers from the Firearms unit."

Two male youths, aged 16 and 17, are currently in police custody.
