Working Mum: Spurned woman plots her revenge
By Tabitha Ronson
The school gate is hotting up with gossip. The mum whose ex is flirting with another mother in the class is apparently now up to her own shenanigans.
She is getting rather friendly with the married dad of a child in Year Two. Our boys are in Year One. The scandal of it - an older year group!
Tongues started wagging when she was spotted walking near the school with the dad, their heads buried together, seemingly deep in conversation.
The following day at pick-up, by the school pegs, he sidled up to her, and, out of ear shot, whispered something to her that made her flush like an adolescent schoolgirl.
They have also been seen working out together and sharing a Jacuzzi at the health club local to the school and sharing coffee and cake at a nearby coffee house.
I have to admit I have seen none of these alleged incidents. I have simply heard about them on the mum-vine.
As I am quite friendly with the mum under scrutiny, I have become the go-to-person of the gossips desperate for some juicy titbits to distribute. Several mums have mentioned the relationship to me, each refusing to believe I know nothing.
Now, call me naïve but if one were having an illicit affair surely one wouldn't conduct it under the beady eye of the school gate?
Or is that what they would want you to believe - a double bluff? Brazenly conduct the affair in the open, so no-one will suspect a thing? A case for Poirot or Ms Marple methinks.
As I was running late from work on Tuesday, the targeted mummy picked up Master A from After School Club for me. I arranged to collect him from her house.
On these far-too-frequent occasions, we normally have a lengthy catch-up. However, when I rang the bell there was no invite in. Did she have a hard day at the office?
Dinner burning on the stove? No. As we passed the black Porsche Cayenne at the top of her turning it became clear: The married father on his way over...
Working mum: Wondering where all these people find the time to lead such duplicitous lives.
