Siemens wins prize for innovative Crystal building
Sustainable structure The Crystal has picked up top prize for innovation at the annual awards of the British Council for Offices.
The Siemens building at the Royal Docks, which opened last year, scooped the award at a ceremony on Tuesday evening.
Judges were impressed with the venue being an "all-electric building that uses solar power and a ground source heat pump to generate its own energy" meaning no fossil fuels are burnt.
Other innovations include rainwater harvesting, black water treatment and automated building management systems.
The BCO added: "The design of the building's structure provides additional insulation and takes energy efficiency to a new level."
