Building Six club to open its doors at The O2
A collaboration aimed at injecting fresh life into a club space at The O2 forms part of the venue's wider vision to cement its reputation as the top entertainment destination in the world
The deal, between The O2 and London Warehouse Events, was signed earlier this year to bring brands including Radio One DJ Mistajam's Speakerbox to the newly-named Building Six.
Jennie Double, events sales director for The O2, admitted the club space had an "interesting and diverse history" ahead of its launch event on Saturday
Originally opened as Matter in 2008, it was transformed into Proud 2 - part of Alex Proud's stable of venues - following a £1million refurbishment in 2011.
"For a variety of reasons, both projects reached a natural end," said Jennie, revealing a two-pronged plan of action to create a revered club venue and leading corporate event space.
"Earlier this year we made the decision to take ownership of the venue in-house and utilise the skill sets of The O2's teams to create an exciting and diverse program of events.
"It is such a great venue and we have the tools and contacts to make it a success.
"It will also showcase The O2's broad audience and its ability to adapt to a variety of business and consumer sectors."
The newly-transformed venue, housed within the North Greenwich premises and spread across three floors, has already hosted events for O2 Telefonica and Fullers.
But this weekend it will be reserved as a haven for ravers at Building Six's launch night, which will feature DJ's including EZ, the Stanton Warriers and headline act Mistajam.
Will Harold, owner of London Warehouse Events, said: "We are really excited to be working in such a great space, we've created a strong and unique partnership with AEG to deliver a series of cutting edge electronic music events for London.
"The first few shows have received an amazing reaction and there's more to be announced shortly. We are excited for the launch on October 12 with Speakerbox."
Jennie said: "Live music is arguably one of the nation's biggest pastimes and there are not many venues in the capital, let alone the local area, that will be able to offer a 3,300 capacity venue for some of the hottest club nights around.
"We also offer a very different and exciting space for corporate event clients."
