Tower Hamlets College scoops best A-Level results yet
Celebrations will have continued long into the weekend for students at Tower Hamlets College, who produced the best crop of A-Level results to date.
Nervous youngsters made the trip to the establishment in Poplar High Street to collect their A-Level and BTEC grades on Thursday.
After apprehensively opening their envelopes there were smiles from many and college principal, Gerry McDonald, was on hand to congratulate the hard-working bunch.
Full A-level results reached the 92 per cent pass rate and the number of students achieving high grades of A*, A or B doubled this year, and now accounts for nearly a quarter of all students.
AS students who had completed the first year of their A-Level studies achieved an 80 per cent pass rate - an impressive nine per cent above the national average.
Mr McDonald said: "I am delighted with this year's results.
"Our students and staff have worked tremendously hard all year and this set
of results demonstrates their commitment.
"Our AS results are now significantly better than the national average and
have improved every year.
"As our students move on I look forward to hearing about their continued success."
Arifat Hussain and Samsul Alom (pictured at the top of the page) both obtained a triple distinction star - the highest possible result in Level 3 BTEC in IT.
The former has been offered a place at City University to study Computer Science with Games Technology while Samsul has secured a data centre technician apprenticeship with Thomson Reuters.
