Fan's Roar: In search of Millwall's first win
By Ian Toal of Millwall Supporters Club
At last we are off the mark both in terms of goals and points.
We might still be awaiting our first league win of the season, but after our dismal start we will gladly take what little offerings that are about at the moment.
We needed an own goal from Sheffield Wednesday defender Kamil Zayatte to get our first goal of the season.
That did not look like being enough as we went 2-1 down before getting a penalty for a foul on Richard Chaplow which Andy Keogh netted.
Again stand-in goalkeeper Stephen Bywater showed his weakness to crosses for The Owls' equaliser.
In the past matches we have been fortunate that when he flapped at crosses we were not punished but we couldn't keep on getting away with it.
Watching how bad he is at crosses I'm amazed at how he was a Championship goalkeeper for so long.
I'm even starting to wonder whether our 38-year-old reserve keeper, signed on a short contract, Andy Marshall should be given a go.
Not ideal to favour a stop gap signing over someone who has been given a much longer contract, but we can't keep on giving chances away to the opposition every time they get a corner or put a cross into the box.
To counter that though I must mention that Bywater did make a great one-on-one stop a little later in the match to keep us just 2-1 down.
He really seems to be one of those goalkeepers that are good shot-stoppers but our defence must be panicking every time the ball comes into the box!
We have the League Cup distraction this week away to Forest.
It's hard to tell whether that is a good thing given our start and search for our first league win.
We also picked up a few injuries in the week leading up to the Sheffield Wednesday game.
Steve Morison is out for about four weeks after having a hernia operation, Jermaine Easter missed the match at Hillsborough due to a hamstring problem and James Henry was missing ill.
It's up to the other players coming in to stake a claim to the starting spot.
Whoever plays needs to help us to our first league victory before the confidence drains away from the whole squad.
