Staff at Stratford's John Lewis store will start the season with a spring in their step after pocketing a 17 per cent bonus.

Announced by the John Lewis Partnership, the reward applies to all employees and is equivalent to almost nine weeks pay.

Noel Saunders, managing director at John Lewis Stratford City, said he was "immensely proud" of the way his team embraced the challenge of London 2012 during the store's first full year of operation, set against a challenging climate for retail.

"Partners embraced the Olympics and our shop's London 2012 contribution was an outstanding success," he added.

"Customers, visitors, spectators and athletes alike all enjoyed their John Lewis experience and I am immensely proud of the way in which Team Stratford embraced this unique challenge and welcomed the world with a smile on their face."
