Man charged over Stratford hit and run

Police have charged a man in relation to a hit and run in Stratford which has left two people in a critical condition.

Lithuanian Nerijus Jarutis, 28, of no fixed abode, was arrested on Tuesday charged with causing serious injury by dangerous driving, arson and intent to pervert the course of justice.

A silver Lexus believed to be involved in the incident was found burnt out near to the scene at the High Road.

Jarutis is also charged with failing to stop at the scene of an accident, failing to report an accident and driving without insurance.

He was due to appear at Thames Magistrates Court on Wednesday.

A 29-year-old woman was arrested on Monday in relation to the incident but she has been released on police bail until May.

The injured man and the woman remain in hospital.
