Police have revealed the teenager who fell from the top floor of the Westfield Stratford City shopping centre was attempting to kill himself.

The 18-year-old, who is still in hospital with serious injuries, landed on a 47-year-old male shopper in the incident last Thursday.

The second man, who was walking with his wife when the teen landed on him, suffered two broken ribs and suffered severe bruising. He has since been released from hospital.

The teenager, who is from Manor Park, fell 80 feet from the third floor of the Stratford shopping centre, landing on the ground floor by the Party Fiesta store.

He is still being treated at hospital for a broken pelvis and a broken leg. Neither of those injured have been named.

Newham Police are still investigating the incident but no arrests have been made.
