Police discovered over £80,000 worth of cannabis at an address on the Isle of Dogs on Friday.

There was no-one in the flat at the time of the raid and police from Blackwall and Cubitt Town are trying to find out who is responsible for the cannabis factory.

Officers also took away £5,000 worth of equipment used to manufacture the drugs.

Police Constable Mark Tildesley said: "Through timely intervention we have disrupted a gang growing a considerable amount of cannabis.

"There was also added danger as the electricity meter had been by-passed and the area had an automatic irrigation system resulting in water and electricity crudely plumbed throughout the property.

"We urge residents and businesses to contact us if they have suspicions about other properties."

The raid took place at Stewart Street.

Well, if the police used more proactive policing they could easily start to root out the problem. For a start, there's loads of BMWs - and other German cars for some reason - with blacked our windows, loaded up with yoooths smoking weed on the riverside by Masthouse Riverboat stop every night... the locals have taken to parking their own cars on the road to fill up all the places to dissuade them.
