A man suspected of shooting a Russian banker outside his Isle of Dogs home has been arrested in Moscow.

Moldovan Vitali Proca, 33, is the chief suspect in the incident which saw six shots fired into the stomach of German Gorbuntsov in Byng Street, just outside Canary Wharf, last March.

Reuters reported Proca was arrested on Friday over a separate attack in Bucharest in November.

The Metropolitan Police have confirmed that the suspect has been detained.

Gorbuntsov, 46, was arriving at his serviced apartment when he was attacked with a Soviet-era Makarov 9mm pistol on March 20.

He survived the attack and has since appeared on Crimewatch to appeal for information on his attacker.
