The stunning Tube entrance at Canary Wharf is among the scenes included in a new range of stamps released on Wednesday.

Royal Mail's Special Stamp Programme, an annual initiative aimed at showcasing the best of British, kicks off 2013 with a series celebrating 150 years of London Underground.

As well as historic images such as the Metropolitan Railway opening of 1863, more contemporary scenes are immortalised, including that of the Norman Foster designed Canary Wharf Underground Station when it opened in 1999.

London Mayor Boris Johnson said: "London Underground was the first transport system of its kind, embodying the engineering ingenuity of our Victorian forefathers.

"These stamps are a fitting celebration of London Underground's rich heritage and its iconic place in our city's life."
