The historic SS Robin will be permanently docked underneath the cable car after its proposal was given approval by Newham Council's planning committee.

Both the Siemens Crystal and Emirates Air Line were among supporters of the move at the meeting on Tuesday night.

The SS Robin, the world's last steam coaster, will be based at the western end of the Royal Docks.

It has recently undergone major works, including putting it in a dry-dock which operates as a museum.

The 300-tonne ship is one of only three boats in London to have the nautical equivalent of a Grade I listed status, alongside the Cutty Sark and HMS Belfast.

It was built in Bow Creek in 1890. It is currently based at the opposite end of the dock and not open to the public.
