An alcoholic who repeatedly punched a man and then dragged his dying body into the street has been jailed for three years.

Nadeem Yasin, 43, of Shaw House, Claremont Street in North Woolwich, pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of Zahir Bouchia.

The pair had known eachother for 10 years, with Yasin living as a lodger to the victim's girlfriend.

On the day of the incident, on May 21 last year, following an argument, Zahir spat in Yasin's face.

In response, Yasin punched the victim three times, leaving him unconscious. He then dragged him down seven flights of stairs and about 80 metres to Woodman Parade.

There he called an ambulance and told a gathered crowd he had assaulted the victim.

Yasin was originally charged with GBH until the victim died.

He was sentenced at the Old Bailey on Monday.
