The Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park will swap last year's summer of sport for the sounds of music by hosting major concerts during 2013.

Entertainment and ecommerce company Live Nation Entertainment has secured exclusive rights to stage the Wireless Festival and Hard Rock Calling at the Stratford venue, after it was given the nod by the London Legacy Development Corporation (LLDC).

The park and stadium, flagship locations for the 2012 Games, will soon be a "centrepiece for great live music in Europe", according to John Reid, president of concerts at Live Nation Europe.

He said during the coming weeks, a series of major concerts with world-renowned artists would be announced to take place at the site.

Dennis Hone, chief executive of the LLDC, said: " This deal marks an important stepping stone towards securing a long term programme of fantastic events that will make Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park a leading destination for Londoners and those who come from further afield."
