Flights to the German city of Nuremberg were launched from London City Airport this week.

Airline CityJet is running the service twice daily with fares starting at £109 for a return journey. An oompah band greeted passengers to the inaugural flight on Sunday.

The south-east German city is home to major global firms such as Siemens, Adidas, Puma and Faber-Catell.

CityJet's CEO Christine Ourmières said: "Nuremberg is a key business hub in Europe given its position as the capital of Germany's industrial heartland. It is the head office location for many of German's multi-nationals and it plays host to several international trade fairs."

The launch of the all year-round route follows Cityjet starting flights to Munster-Osnabruck in October last year.

Meanwhile, London City came in seventh place in a poll over the most scenic landings in the world.

Industry experts selected the shortlist for PrivateFly.com before it was put to the public vote.

St Maarten Princess Juliana International Airport in the Caribbean, Scotland's Barra Airport and Los Angeles International Airport in the States were the top three.
