A pair of Wharf-based businesses have proved they are the leaders of the pack by securing a top two finish in a sporting challenge.

Staff at Bank of America Merrill Lynch, in Canada Square, were crowned this year's champions of the London Corporate Decathlon 2012 at the Activitymix Sports Awards held earlier this month.

They proved victorious over the course of 10 closely-fought events, which included basketball, table tennis, dragon boat racing and touch rugby.

And in doing so, the team secured bragging rights over Churchill Place neighbours Barclays, who finished second.

But the banking firm showed its prowess as team winner of the Personal Health Challenge category, with employee Brian Hodge singled out as the most improved male competitor.

Serena Hobson, sports and social coordinator of Activitymix, said: "The sports awards provide a fitting finale to a fantastic season, in which the participating companies have gone the extra mile to encourage employee engagement through participation in the events."

A raffle on the night also raised £900 for grass-roots sports and activity providers which had pledged their support for the decathlon.
