Mayor Boris Johnson promoted London Poppy Day in Canary Wharf with the aid of a Royal Navy RIB and HMS Severn.

Thursday will see more than 2,000 volunteers take to the streets to sell the Remembrance poppy at 70 Tube and rail stations, aiming to raise £1million in 12 hours.

The Mayor became the first person to make a contactless donation - launched on this year's campaign - after being winched from the RIB to the navy's offshore patrol vessel currently moored at South Quay.

Mayor Johnson said: "It's been a real honour to fly down the Thames on a Royal Navy RIB to help raise awareness for London Poppy Day and I am humbled to be standing shoulder to shoulder with those who serve.

"I know that Londoners will join me in showing their support for the Armed Forces and dig deep to help raise £1 million in a day."
