British Airways launched its six times a week service to the Italian city of Venice on Monday.

The leisure route from London City Airport will be all year round and comes after the airline's successful introduction of other holiday destinations such as Palma, Ibiza and Malaga.

The latest flights put British Airways as the number one airline in terms of flights and customers at London City.

It now flies to 23 destinations from the east London airport.

Luke Hayhoe, general manager commercial for British Airways at London City, said: "We are very excited about the launch of the new Venice service, a popular winter and summer route.

"This is what our customers have been asking for, year-round short break destinations that are only a couple of hours flying time from the centre of London."

Fares begin at £85 all inclusive each way.
