Andy Carroll's hamstring injury is worse than first fears and likely to keep out the Irons striker for up to six weeks.

The 23-year-old made a strong start in the Irons 3-0 win over Fulham but departed the field early clutching his leg. He was immediately pulled from the England World Cup qualifiers but hoped to return for the Norwich game later this month.

Now a scan has revealed that the injury is serious and keeps him out of four Premier League games while the next round of World Cup qualifiers could also be out of reach.

He will target a return later in October, possibly in the home fixture against Southampton.
