Boxers prepare for Excel final
The world's top amateur boxers are heading to the Excel Centre this weekend.
Just weeks after staging the team final of the World Series Boxing won by Dolce and Gabbana Milano Thunder, the venue will be hosting the individual championships with five bouts taking place on Saturday evening.
Dr Ching-Kuo Wu, WSB Board Chairman, said: ""After the resounding success of the WSB Team Final, the competition returns to the soon to become mythic venue for the Olympic Games boxing event.
"The WSB is foremost a team competition but during the regular season the boxers are ranked according to their performances and then get the opportunity of staking their claims to take home the WSB Champions belts.
"In the end this is all what boxing is about: individual glory."
The line-up sees fighters from six different nations, including talented 20-year-old Bantamweight Elias Emigdio from Mexico City. He will take on Gairbek Germakhanov in the opening fight of the night.
Adlan Abdurashidov, the 21-year-old lightweight from Russia will then face Mexico's Juan Romero.
After middleweight and light-heavyweight bouts, Rusian Myrsatayev of Kazakhstan takes on Filip Hrgovic of Croatia.
The action starts at 7.30pm and is due to finish at 10.45.
As part of the promotion fighters will be visiting West Ham Boys Boxing Club at 5.30pm today (Wednesday) before heading to Covent Garden for the weigh-in on Friday June 8 at 2pm.
