Police have released CCTV pictures of a man wanted for a "vicious and unprovoked assault" on an Australian man near Westferry DLR.

The suspect, who is Asian and aged around 20 to 25 years old, left his victim with fractures to his skull and a broken nose, as well as broken ribs and fingers.

The 34-year-old victim was on his way home from the gym on April 19 last year when he was set upon.

The incident took place on the Thames Path by the pedestrian bridge near Dundee Wharf at 9.50pm.

Detectives, who are treated the attack as motiveless, said the suspect probably headed to Westferry DLR after the incident.

Detective Constable Andrew Phillips, of the Community Safety Unit at Tower Hamlets, said: "This was a vicious and unprovoked attack on an innocent man.

"The assault would have been witnessed by a large number of people as it happened in a busy part of Limehouse, numerous bars, restaurants and leisure facilities overlook the Thames Path.

"I would appeal to anyone who knows or recognises the male in the image to come forward. This was a terrible attack and he needs to be brought to justice."
