First day in the job for university vice chancellor
The new vice-chancellor of the University of Greenwich took up his post today.
Professor David Maguire was previously Pro vice-chancellor for corporate development at Birmingham City University and has a wealth of experience both in universities and in industry in the UK and America.
He said: "I am delighted to join Greenwich at this important point in its development. It has a great reputation, a strong portfolio of activities in teaching, research and enterprise, and a focus on quality, excellence and educational opportunities. I look forward to working with staff, students and all the university's partners to achieve new ambitions in the years ahead."
Professor Maguire succeeds Labour peer and former minister of state for education and employment Baroness Blackstock who retired from the university after seven years.
Chairman of the university court Sir Stuart Etherington said: "He brings us a unique combination of high-level experience in both education and business. He is incisive and analytical and I know that he will help us to achieve our goal of becoming the most successful modern university in London."
