Plans have been unveiled for a 130 bedroom hotel in the heart of Woolwich.

Key Homes Group has announced it has bought a 125 year lease on the site at Berkeley Homes Royal Arsenal Riverside development. It will be building a mid-market hotel there with the aim of opening by 2013.

The hotel will be operated by a "well-known brand subject to a forthcoming franchise deal".

Rafik Patel of Key Homes, which has also been behind Holiday Inn Docklands, said: "Royal Arsenal Riverside is the perfect location for a quality mid-market hotel offering.

"The development itself has an established welcoming ambience and the superb transport links including railway station, DLR and Thames Clipper services as well as the forthcoming Crossrail project means that it is ideally located for both business travellers and tourists looking for quick access to Canary Wharf, the City and West End."

The Royal Arsenal Riverside development is a regeneration scheme which has already delivered 1,750 homes.
