O2 Skywalk gets the go-ahead

skywalk.jpgA walkway across the top of the O2 has received the green light from Greenwich Council and is expected to be completed in time for next year's Olympic Games.

The 190 metre long temporary Skywalk will take up to 90 people at a time between two of the building's distinctive yellow pylons to an observation platform.

The challenging experience has been compared the Sydney Harbour Bridge Walk.

Millennium Dome architects Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners is behind the Skywalk's design.

Project director Mike Davies said: ""The rooftop walkway will be a new and distinctive addition to The O2, whilst preserving the integrity of the original structure as well as respecting its geometry and sculptural qualities.

"It will offer an exciting and challenging London attraction that is highly accessible to visitors."
