Greenwich Philosophy Students are speaking out

aa-mar12-greenwichpark6.jpgStudents fighting to save a Philosophy course at the University of Greenwich are holding a speakers' corner this weekend.

The campaigners want the School of Humanities to rethink its decision to stop any future intake to the BA Philosophy programme. Those with a place for 2011 have been sent letters offering them alternative course combinations.

Programme leader Kath Jones said: "If the Humanities School want to stop recruitment to the subject, they can make that decision within the school. If they want to recommend that BA Philosophy is closed, the decision has to go through the University.

"However, if they go through with stopping recruitment we will be effectively closed down anyway with no new students coming in."

A petition supporting the course has gathered more than 1,100 signatures.
The Save Philosophy demonstration is being held at the Greenwich Campus this Saturday (April 9) at 2pm.
