IN A NUTSHELL
Killers frontman goes it alone without wandering to far from the well trodden path to mainstream success.
The Killers' frontman appears to be moving closer to the centre of the street with his debut solo album.
Currently getting plenty of airplay, drive time friendly single Crossfire has been given a coat of gloss by U2 producer Daniel Lanois.
So much so, it could almost slip unnoticed onto a new release from the Irish pop legends.
Fortunately Flowers has done a lot more than reproduce middle of the road melodies and climatic choruses.
If you are expecting an album in the same mould as The Killers, then you won't be surprised to learn the songs were written for the band.
Although quite a departure from Hot Fuss, second album Sam's Town could be seen as having opened the gates for Flamingo.
The album is more '80s pop than indie rock but Flowers has not sold out.
Was It Something I Said ups the tempo and gives a rockabilly sound an electro twist.
And he pays homage to his home town with the far from understated Welcome To The Fabulous Las Vegas.
This is not the end for The Killers. Flowers hopes Flamingo will fuel the fire to get them back into the studio. In the meantime, this album offers a worthy stop gap.
