The Lions Roar: Millwall bounce back in style

Millwall responded well to our first defeat of the season at Leeds last week with two home wins in the last week against Middlesbrough in the League Cup and Coventry in the Championship last Saturday. To bounce back so emphatically has buoyed the mood among our supporters.

Most of us are convinced we can comfortably hold our own in this division and our home form is a real key factor in that.

The win over Coventry extended our unbeaten home run to 20 games. That's pretty impressive but a run all Millwall supporters hope will be extended a lot longer.

Beating Coventry was very pleasing as we definitely deserved the victory. It was only the visitor's goalkeeper and the woodwork that thwarted our efforts at 1-1, until Liam Trotter's goal and Steve Morison's penalty eventually sealed the win.

Things are definitely looking up for Millwall. We even put in a cheeky bid for Swindon Town striker Charlie Austin, which sadly was turned down by the Robins. That bid has definitely signalled how far the club has come over the past year.

tony craig.jpgThere was more good news this week as defender Tony Craig came through 90 minutes of a behind-closed-doors friendly win over West Ham United on Tuesday.

Craig broke his metatarsal in our play-off final win over Swindon in May and therefore he must be itching to get back involved in the first team.

Meanwhile, our young back-up goalkeeper John Sullivan has extended his loan deal at Yeovil Town until January 3. It should give him lots of first team practice, which is exactly what he needs at this point in his career.

The club also recently announced that current player of the season, Alan Dunne, has been granted a testimonial.

Dunney has been at the club since he was 10 years old, and through sheer hard work and determination has turned round supporters' opinions of him.

His attitude seemed to improve 100 per cent during that time, and if he keeps putting the solid displays we are now accustomed to from him, I have no doubt his testimonial will be generously supported by Millwall fans.
