rugbyball142.jpgCanary Wharf will be going rugby mad next week when it hosts its first ever touch rugby tournament.

The Touch Rugby Corporate Challenge will kick off in Canada Square Park at 11am next Thursday, with entries still open for Wharf teams wanting to take part.

The quickfire matches last five minutes each way, and every team of four must have at least one female on the pitch for the duration of their games.

For the uninitiated, touch rugby involves no tackling, scrummaging, rucking, mauling, lineouts or kicking - making it ideal for those unfamiliar with the finer points of the oval ball game.

Thursday's event, which is being organised by the RFU as part of its Play On campaign, will finish at 8pm.

Andrew Scoular, the RFU's community rugby director, said: "The Touch Rugby Corporate Challenge is all about getting business people back into sport, to showcase what rugby has to offer and encourage people to join their local clubs."

Peter Kyte, managing director of Canary Wharf Management Ltd, said: "There are a lot of rugby fans working in Canary Wharf and living nearby, evidenced by our local rugby clubs going from strength to strength.

"By bringing the Touch Rugby Corporate Challenge to Canary Wharf we hope to get more people involved in what is a great sport."
