Green Living: Garden Party

By Andrew Williams
Next week sees a major new event taking place in the capital which allows unprecedented access to some of London's most exclusive addresses.
The Garden Party To Make a Difference begins on Wednesday, September 8, and runs for 12 days. The event takes place in the gardens of Clarence House - the home of the Prince of Wales.
Visitors will not only get a glimpse of the amazing formal gardens and the royal compost heap, they will also be able to visit some of the suppliers and organisations who share Prince Charles' enthusiasm for sustainable living.
The vision behind the event is to encourage guests to start making a difference. Whether it's by using less energy, recycling more or growing and eating food which is locally and seasonally produced, we can all do our bit to make the world a better place. It's a positive message that change can be a good thing.
Many of the activities around the event are aimed at the next generation of eco campaigners. We're working on an activity which is taking place as part of the Garden Party to encourage kids to understand what a low carbon future could mean.
Other children's activities include an Eco Ark full of exciting interactive bits and pieces and wide representation from schools groups.
Household names like B&Q and Marks & Spencer will be taking part and there will be a Farmers' Market area selling delicious locally sourced food.
This is an incredible opportunity to see some of the private spaces which the royal family use as their sanctuaries. It's testimony to Prince Charles' dedication that he's throwing the doors open for this amazing event.
