West Ham sign Kiwi defender Winston Reid
West Ham have signed New Zealand international defender Winston Reid for an undisclosed sum.
The 22-year-old joined the Hammers last night from Danish side Midtjylland on a three-year contract to bolster manager Avram Grant's defensive options.
Reid featured for New Zealand during the World Cup in South Africa and scored a last-minute equaliser in their match against Slovakia.
He said: "I am looking forward to getting started. My dream has been to come and play in the Premier League and I am happy that I am a West Ham player.
"It has been a mad couple of weeks and the last couple of days have been pretty hectic, so I am just happy to be here now.
"I am pretty decent fitness-wise. I had a game last Sunday, so I am in pretty good nick."
Reid might feature in the squad for tomorrow's friendly against Deportivo la Coruna at Upton Park. At 6ft 3ins he usually plays centre-back but can also play at right-back, a position where West Ham have been very short of cover.
