Gary Lineker keeps Canary Wharf fans happy
England football legend Gary Lineker drew the crowds to Jubilee Place mall this afternoon when he turned up to sign copies of his latest book.
The former striker, now presenter of Match of the Day, was at Waterstone's to promote Still Dreaming: My Inside Account of the 2010 World Cup, and he was still unhappy with England's poor performance.
He said: "It was a massive letdown as far as England were concerned. They just failed to perform at all really.
"You wouldn't say any of the players performed to their level, which makes you slightly suspect the preparations were wrong. Plus tactically it was wrong.
"All in all it didn't even give us a glimmer of hope of being successful."
Happily for Lineker, he's been able to vent his frustration in print, and the book gives his pithy opinions on where England went wrong, his thoughts on manager Fabio Capello, and what the future holds for the national team.
And the man who scored 48 goals for his country and played in two World Cups at least had the consolation that plenty of people are interested in what he thinks, judging from the lengthy queues to meet him.
For an exclusive interview with Lineker pick up your free copy of The Wharf next Thursday.
