Charlton: Parky hoping for no play-off hangover

When Charlton line up against Bournemouth in Saturday's curtain-raiser at The Valley many fans will get their first glimpse of the new-look side.
The Addicks lost a number of first teamers including Nicky Bailey, Frazer Richardson, Deon Burton and Lloyd Sam during the summer, and many fear that could dent their promotion hopes.
However, manager Phil Parkinson insists a clear-out may be just what was needed following last seasons play-off defeat.
Parkinson said: "We've had a big change around in terms of personnel which in many respects is a good thing.
"We won't have that hangover from the play-off defeat because many of those players are not here any more."
Johnnie Jackson, Kyel Reid, Gary Doherty, Alan McCormack, Simon Francis and Pawel Abbott have been brought into the squad with the last two being the first time Parkinson has spent money on a player since he joined the Addicks.
He said: "It's going to be a squad that will evolve and get better as the season goes on and as the players get to know each other better. There's a real freshness about us and we're very positive."
The Addicks boss said he was still interested in making more signings soon but it was looking unlikely these would be before Saturday's big kick off.
Parkinson was adamant new signings would come in as the season progresses.
"I don't think I've been part of such a change around in players but it's been an enjoyable challenge," said Parkinson. "I'm confident more additions will be made as we go along."
