Beckton murder suspect released from hospital
Police have started formally questioning a man arrested over the murder of a mother and daughter in Beckton.
Svetlana Zolotovska, a 40-year-old Latvian national, and her mother Antonia Belska, 70, (both pictured) were killed during the early hours of last Thursday.
On Thursday afternoon, the man, understood to be Svetlana's husband Sergei, was released from hospital where he was being treated for self-inflicted injuries.
He was immediately taken to an east London police station for questioning.
Svetlana died in what police describe as a "horrific attack" in Stansfeld Road by Royal Albert DLR while on her way to work last Thursday.
Police then went to her house at nearby Leamouth Road which was found to be on fire.
There they discovered Antonia dead on the ground floor of the property.
After the blaze upstairs was put out by the fire brigade, officers found a man, understood to be Svetlana's estranged husband Sergei, in the loft with numerous injuries.
He was taken to hospital and put under arrest.
Appealing for information earlier this week, DCI Paul Rickells said: "This is an horrific attack in broad daylight.
"We know the younger victim left her address in east London at 7.20am to walk to work.
"She was attacked at the bus stop in Stansfeld Road. We have traced several witnesses but would like to speak to anyone who may have been in the area at that time."
A post-mortem carried out over the weekend found Svetlana had died from stab wounds to her neck, chest and abdomen. Her mother had been stabbed in the chest and abdomen.
Svetlana's mother arrived in the UK three months ago, following the separation of her daughter and son-in-law.
Police have since revealed there was a history of domestic disputes between Svetlana and her husband dating back to 2006.
