Excel has revealed its latest plans for a hotel to be built in the run-up to the 2012 Olympics.

The 252 room venue is being developed by the exhibition centre's owners, Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Company, and it will be run by Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide.

Starwood will use its new brand, Aloft Hotels which, it says, will offer an "energetic guest experience at an affordable price".

Excel London's CEO Kevin Murphy said: "We have been working closely with Starwood to bring the Aloft brand to London.

"The Aloft London Excel will provide travellers with a space that is open to design and open to possibilities, and the arrival of this hip, new hotel concept will offer our customers a unique guest experience."

The hotel will open at the end of next year. It will feature rooms designed by Rockwell Group which include three metre high ceilings, oversized windows, walk-in showers and 42 inch flat-panel, high definition televisions.

The hotel will also include a 24-hour food and beverage area, fitness centre and swimming pool.

It will be based at the eastern end of Royal Victoria Dock, with covered access to Prince Regent DLR.

Newham Council gave outline approval to an application for the hotel in May last year.
