MillwallLOGO142.jpgMillwall saw their hopes of automatic promotion recede after defeat against struggling Tranmere.

Goals from Ian Thomas-Moore and Andy Robinson secured the win and now leaves Millwall praying second placed Leeds lose next Saturday, while they win their last home game against Swindon.

That automatic promotion is now out of the Lions' hands is as much down to their own wayward finishing as it is to Tranmere's ambition to stay in League One.

In a tense first half, with both sides seemingly aware of how much was at stake, there were precious few chances, although those that were created were from Millwall.

But the game turned in first-half injury time when Lions captain Paul Robinson was adjudged to have tripped Thomas-Moore in the penalty area, and the same player converted the spot kick.

Andy Robinson, ironically on loan from Leeds, scored a superb 25 yard goal on 66 minutes to knock the stuffing out of the visitors.

Millwall should have been on level terms at that point, though, with Lewis Grabban - on as a substitute just seconds earlier - missing an easy header from close range on 57 minutes.

The Lions must now win against Swindon at The Den next Saturday and hope Leeds - one point ahead of them in League One - are held by Bristol Rovers at Elland Road.

If they don't make the second automatic promotion place it will have been their recent away form that let them down, as manager Kenny Jackett acknowledged.

He said: "I was disappointed. I don't think we played very well.

"We've now gone to Yeovil, Huddersfield and Tranmere, which were three key games, and we haven't done enough.

"The first half was probably our best spell and after their goal we really ran out of ideas. It's a big frustration."
