Canary Wharf golfer wins competition by a long shot

wharfgolf142.jpgCanary Wharf got a little taste of the Ryder Cup yesterday and one Wharfer walked off with tickets to the big showdown in October.

Peter Foster, from Credit Suisse, hit a magnificent 337 yard drive on a simulator to earn himself a pair of tickets to the eagerly anticipated Europe v USA match at Celtic Manor.

Teeing off on a simulation of the 18th hole of the South Wales course, Mr Foster proved himself to be the best driver in Canary Wharf and the City, with his magnificent drive.

His distance comfortably outstripped the best set by the City boys on Tuesday, a mere 314 yards posted when the simulator was in Broadgate Circus.

Greenwood himself managed a drive of 307 yards on the simulator, albeit after rather more than the permitted number of attempts.

Another winner was Andrew Ward from Morgan Stanley. He was the only person who managed to sink an "impossible putt" first time on a particularly tricky artificial green to win tickets to the Ryder Cup practice day.

Pick up a copy of next week's Wharf to read an exclusive interview with World Cup winner Will Greenwood, who shares his thoughts on England's forthcoming tour to Australia.
