Harris hopeful on Millwall promotion ambitions
Millwall head into the final phase of the season with automatic promotion from League One tantalisingly within their grasp.
The Lions are third in the table, one point behind Leeds, heading into this weekend's round of penultimate fixtures. For record goalscorer Neil Harris the Lions have the momentum to take them up.
He said: "We're in a great position after a great run since Christmas. We had a little blip with the results against Yeovil and Huddersfield but we're back on track after beating Orient last week. It's hard to win five or six of your last eight games but we've had our blip now and we're ready to push on.
"We play Tranmere away on Saturday and it's a massive game because they are battling relegation and have everything to play for. But we're looking forward to the challenge."
Millwall fans will be praying for a win for local rivals Charlton against Leeds on Saturday. An Addicks' win, coupled with a Millwall victory, would see the Lions leapfrog the Yorkshire club into second place, but Harris is not relying on favours at The Valley.
He said: "We're not concentrating on other teams' performances, we're just going to make sure we do our bit. It would be nice if it came down to us winning to go up, rather than relying on other teams stopping Leeds. We'll be aiming to win both our games, then we'll see where we are."
Harris, 32, has scored 13 league goals this season and plans a few more before the end of the campaign. He believes last season's experience, when the Lions lost the League One play-off final against Scunthorpe, has helped in this promotion run-in.
He said: "What we went through last season has been a big help. The players who have played in the big games this season know what to expect in terms of pressure.
"We want that automatic spot, and I hope we'll be cracking open the champagne on May 8. But if we don't manage it we'll be confident of doing well in the play-offs. We've been there before and that will be a big help."
