Transport chaos hits rush-hour again

Commuters to Canary Wharf have been hit with transport disruption for the second day running.
A number of overground trains into London Bridge, Charing Cross and Cannon Street were cancelled, while DLR trains suffered severe delays due to broken down trains.
Services with Southeastern were cancelled for much of the morning, while First Capital Connect trains were diverted to Herne Hill and Southern had a reduced service.
Disruption begin in the early hours of Tuesday morning after a fire under the railway arches at Debnams Road in Bermondsey.
Around 50 firefighters in ten fire engines attended the blaze to part of an internal mezzanine floor.
More than a dozen people were evacuated from nearby flats. The cause of the fire is not known.
A spokesman for Network Rail said: "Passenger safety is our number one concern but we hope to get the trains running again as soon as possible."
The group was hopeful of having trains into the major stations before midday and then a gradual recovery throughout the afternoon.
On the DLR there was severe delays due to faulty trains at Deptford and Bank. That issue was resolved by 11am.

I am seriously fed up of the DLR service. Last January they closed the station for more than 1 month to provide 3 carriage trains. You can still see the grinning poster of the DLR director promising "more comfort, seats and trains" at Bank Station. And after barely a month, DLR has the brilliant idea of undertaking escalator works at bank station. This started on Monday 1st march and it has been nothing short of a nightmare to get to bank station for the past 3 days.
No wonder there are so many fare dodgers around. When you pay so much and get so little in return, that's what DLR should expect.
I sincerely hope they get to grips with the overcrowding at bank or people will start wreaking havoc on the DLR.
My work means spending quite a lot of time in and around schools in the docklands area and generally I find the DLR to be a great service for getting between them, and for making a quick getaway afterwards. Given the volume of passengers, I think it's unfair to criticise the DLR, which is generally rather excellent.
I was on the train that broke down between Deptford and Greenwich, it was a farce. The control centre repeatedly asked the train attendant to override controls in each carriage in order the train could be driven manually, the attendant insisted this could not be done due to severe overcrowding. We were on the verge of having to walk down the tracks when a passenger intervened and took charge of the situation so the attendant could do what the control centre had asked him.
Someone at Wharf.co.uk should really look into this story again - I was late for work AGAIN today. It happens so often my colleagues are starting to question whether there really is "trouble on the DLR". Half the time the TFL website seems to say something entirely different from the pasenger info boards.
Still problems!? So glad I hardly ever have to go out east. Apart from the DLR, I really don't like the kind of people that live there.
